Stracciatella!

stracciatella

Since mastering my custard technique (and we got an ice cream maker) I have moved on to ice cream. And despite some other great flavours so far (vanilla, chocolate, burnt caramel, and a not so great coffee), I think I'm most thrilled with this, my first attempt at one of my favourite gelato flavours.

Recipe is Nigella's vanilla ice cream from How To Eat with a block of Lindt 70% melted and drizzled in in the final stages of churning- which gave the lovely chocolate shards I was hoping for! Yum!

The proper stuff.

proper custard

You'd think the highlight of my year was making a decent custard.  This is the first time I've made one (without custard powder) that hasn't split.  Recipe is a hybrid of the two in Nigella's How To Eat and this one.  Not as thick as I'm used to, but so much better!

So, I have made the decision it's better to be a once-every-ten-months-blogger than a non-blogger.  Of course there's much I should've posted but didn't.  In summary of 2011 so far, life has been good and yet still full of challenges, the family is great, and I am back at work full time again (which is okay, thanks to my wonderful husband and Mum picking up where I left off).
Hoping to share more soon,

A.
